Tonight will be the last game Ken Holland serves as General Manager of the @edmontonoilers & when he took this team over 5 years ago many thought how can you lend this team to this point, to one game away from winning a @stanleycup how can you do that Kenny?
He fired coaches, he trades away players, he lost Oscar Klefbom & Adam Larsson. The Cap never went up, he had everyone outside of Edmonton saying you’ll never win with this group. You don’t have a true number one goalie, a true number one D-Men & you don’t have depth up front.
He said ok, let’s prove you all wrong. He signed @ZachHyman & took heat for that. Wrong. He traded for Ekholm & some said he’s game has pasted him by. Wrong. He gave Skinner an opportunity to run with this net & he took off setting career highs, now he’s become one of the best clutch goalies in the history of our great game.
Oh & he signed Connor Brown to a $4M deal, he never gave up on Brown as a GM.
He kept Janmark over fan favourite players & now Janmark is a star to these fans who did believe in him but maybe they wanted more & in these playoffs they got more.
Oh & people said Broberg was not going to workout in Edmonton but both the player & the GM were patient, when the opportunity came Broberg never looked back, he up Nurse elevate his game at the same time. So in that you got two amazing players on the back end.
Yes he’s made some mistakes but overall his body of work on the wins out take the losses.
Ken Holland is one amazing human being & he’s one of the smartest hockey minds this game has ever seen.
Thank you Kenny for the last 5 years.
